Dillan's Voice: The impact of assistive speech tech on a nonverbal teen with Autism

In honor of Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month, Apple has released a story which is both enlightening and uplifting:

Dillan is a 17 year old on the severe end of the Autism spectrum, and cannot speak. Life as a nonverbal person means never being able to express your thoughts, essentially trapped in your own mind. And, most people assume that because someone doesn't make eye contact or speak, that they aren't listening, or even that they aren't thinking. Dillan teaches us that just because someone does not have a voice, it does not mean that they don't have anything important to say.

Watch below for Dillan's full journey as he is finally given a voice, changing his life for the better.

Happy Autism Awareness Month, and remember that what you see on the surface rarely reveals what is on the inside.
